Program Description

The M.Ed. in Elementary Education is an online degree designed to build upon the professional base of knowledge developed from the BSED in Elementary Education curriculum. This degree program provides advanced professional and pedagogical studies in the areas of learning, assessment, and research, and includes a strong link to classroom instruction and implementation of knowledge and skills in elementary school settings. Current certification in Early Childhood/Elementary Education is required for admission to the degree program, in order for the candidate to be considered for a teaching certificate upgrade. This 12-course, 36-semester hour program can be completed in four consecutive semesters - about 16 months - with full-time enrollment. Courses are offered on a continuous basis, allowing for part-time enrollment. All coursework is fully online. No campus visits are required to complete the program.

Admissions Information

Must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally- accredited institution.

Minimum undergraduate GPA** of 2.75 on a 4.0 Scale. GPA will be calculated on all attempted undergraduate coursework in which a letter grade was awarded.

Must hold a clear/renewable, 4-year teaching certificate (T-4) in Early Childhood Education.

** Students whose cumulative undergraduate GPA falls below a 2.75 must submit acceptable scores on either the GRE or the MAT.
