Program Description

"The Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) is designed for graduate students with a master's degree in special education who desire further specialization as professional counselors and a higher level of competence in their work settings. The degree consists of 27 semester hours after completion of the master's degree.

The mission of the Ed.S. in Special Education program is to provide special educators with advanced skills and knowledge to be exemplary practitioners and leaders.

Admissions Information

"Program Specific Admittance Guidelines Students are admitted in Summer, Fall and Spring For students who have a Master's Degree in special education, applicants must: Complete requirements for a Master's degree in special education from an accredited institution Present a cumulative 3.5 (4.0 scale) grade point average or higher on all graduate work Present a current teaching certificate in special education Document 2 or more years of successful experience as a special education teacher Take part in an interview with program faculty. The interview may take place in person or with the use of technology (e.g. Skype, Go To Meeting, etc.) For students who do not have have a Master's Degree in special education, applicants must: Complete requirements for a Master's degree in education from an accredited institution Present a cumulative 3.5 (4.0 scale) grade point average or higher on all graduate work Present a current teaching certificate in special education Document 2 or more years of successful experience as a special education teacher Take part in an interview with program faculty. The interview may take place in person or with the use of technology (e.g. Skype, Go To Meeting, etc.) Complete four pre-requisite courses to be identified by the program advisor"
