Program Description

Public Health is the science of disease prevention that uses proactive evidence-based approaches to address human health at the population level, rather than the individual level. Public health strengthens whole communities, empowering households, neighborhoods, cities, nations, and international regions with an approach dedicated to improving the health and quality of life for all citizens.

This UGA College of Public Health graduate certificate will prepare you to join the next generation of public health leaders. You will learn how to confront a wide range of perilous health challenges, including infectious diseases, environmental hazards, socially driven health disparities, and mass casualty disasters. You will learn about the incidence and prevalence of diseases and conditions, methods of disease prevention and health promotion, analysis of health care data, public health organizations, and public health policies and health care system management.

Public Health is an interdisciplinary field. As such, public health workers examine a wide range of challenges to community wellness from multiple perspectives, including societal, social, political, and economic. Learning public health concepts can infuse with almost any other work. Public health careers include biostatistician, epidemiologist, environmental scientist and engineer, project manager, director of environmental health, health educator, water quality specialist, public health officer, community health workers, health and safety engineer, and patient advocate.
