The Educational Leadership Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) Degree Program is a hybrid 27-credit graduate program designed to prepare Educational Leadership (EDLD) candidates for Tier II advanced leadership positions that include P-12 school level principals or the equivalent, superintendents, or other LUA staff who supervise principals pursuant to the GaPSC Educational Leadership Preparation rule (Rule 505-3-.77). Embedded within this program is Tier II leadership certification, which may be taken independently as an 18-credit Tier II Educational Leadership Certificate-Only Program for those who already possess an Ed.S. Either program is open to those holding Tier I Educational Leadership Certification and seeking Tier II Educational Leadership Certification. The program is administered through the cohort model, and the course sequence is prescribed and provided to candidates at orientation. The 750 required hours of clinical practice are job-embedded and performance-based throughout the program, and are guided cooperatively by the University and the school/district partner via Residency courses. Physical presence on campus is minimal and entails no more than eight (8) required campus visits.

The Ed.S. in Educational Leadership program provides a unique opportunity for educational leaders to further develop the skills necessary for school administrative positions through a rigorous performance-based coursework/program. The 5-semester program is administered through a cohort process, providing a cooperative learning environment as well as a unique opportunity for students to network with educators in a variety of leadership and administrative positions.

We keep our classes relatively small to give ample opportunity for personalized instruction and discussion. We understand that furthering your education is just one part of your busy life and that work, home and family are also important to you. But we also want you to get the most out of your College of Education experience. That is why we have created a flexible, hybrid program to help meet your needs. One-third of your classes for each course are in the evening at Georgia Southern’s campus; one-third are online; and finally, you complete your program requirements with an onsite residency component and an action research study.
