Program Description

"Georgia College and State University offers a fully online Education Specialist degree in Teacher Leadership. This program is 30 hours and takes four semesters to complete. The program of study consists of 6 four-credit-hour core courses (24 hours) and 6 hours of content courses. Content courses will be selected in consultation with the candidate's advisor. The program transpires in a cohort model. Students begin the program as a group in the summer semester and complete the next summer semester. In this fully online program, candidates will develop positive relationships with their professors and fellow candidates through group work and online discussion forums.

The program is designed to provide experienced educators with the knowledge, skills and dispositions in the high need areas of developing job-embedded professional development based on identified student and teacher needs, improving instruction through coaching, and building collaborative learning communities. The EDS in Teacher Leadership is considered a new field K-12 certification and candidates must pass a Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) test to become certified. This degree program prepares candidates as teacher leadership specialists and also fulfills one of the requirements to advance within Georgia's new Tiered Certification for educators."

Admissions Information

For admission, a student must have a minimum GPA of 3.25, hold or be eligible for a clear renewable, level five (5) Georgia Teacher Certificate, submit proof of 3 years of certificated teaching, and submit University Admissions Form including application fee, if applicable. Additionally, candidates must submit two professional recommendations, transcripts from all colleges/universities attended, verification of immunization, and a letter of support from the administrator at the school where employed.
