Computer Science Endorsement

Georgia State University
Degree Level Teaching Endorsement
Total Credit Hours 12

Program Description

Computer science education is a rapidly growing field in K-12 education. Many schools face shortages of computer science teachers, making them highly in demand. The year-long computer science endorsement program is designed for teachers who are interested in adding the field of computer science education to a current, renewable teaching certificate held in a content area other than computer science for any grade band.

The program has four courses that are designed to fit into a working teacher's schedule and are offered online. In the fall, candidates take one class about digital literacy and cybersecurity. In the spring, candidates take one class about computational thinking and human-computer interaction. During the summer, candidates take two classes: a programming course designed specifically for future computing teachers and a computer science teaching methods course.
