Institution Overview
North Georgia College & State University is a coeducational state university emphasizing strong liberal arts, as well as pre-professional, professional, and graduate programs. Serving as a liberal arts university for all of its students and as a military college for its Corps of Cadets, the university is distinct in many ways. As the only four-year public institution in northeast Georgia, NGCSU offers a quality college experience in a beautiful mountain setting.
This mission is founded upon the following core values:
- Courage– demonstrating the individual and institutional character required to translate thought into action under adverse or challenging conditions,
- Integrity– cultivating in ourselves and in others the willingness and steadfastness to act honestly and ethically,
- Loyalty– being faithful to the mission of the university,
- Respect– acknowledging the dignity and worth of all beings and preserving the richness of our cultures and ecology,
- Service– giving of oneself to enhance the life and richness of the university and all of its members, as well as the larger community,
- Truth– searching for and honoring truth as it relates to academics, individuals, self, and society, and
- Wisdom– making sound decisions in complex or ambiguous situations based on accumulated knowledge and experiences.
Specializing in leadership training and producing leaders since its founding, the university has been designated a Leadership Institution of Georgia.
Although the majority of its almost 5,500 enrolled students are not members of the award-winning Corps of Cadets, the residential campus community is influenced by military values, including respect, responsibility and service to others.
In the schools of Arts & Letters, Business, Education, and Science & Health Professions, North Georgia students pursue undergraduate degrees in 50 fields, including teacher education, business administration, computer science, nursing, fine arts, humanities, biology, chemistry and social sciences. Master’s degrees are offered in teacher education, public administration, nursing and community counseling.
As a member of the Medical College of Georgia Doctorate of Physical Therapy Consortium, North Georgia offers a fully accredited entry-level program leading to the doctoral degree from MCG.
North Georgia had an economic impact of more than $157.7 million during FY 2010.
