The mission of Gordon State College is to:
- Prepare students for transfer into and success in baccalaureate and professional degree programs through the college transfer program;
- Prepare students for entry into, and success in, specific occupations and careers especially demanded by the surrounding community through appropriate associate and baccalaureate programs;
- Strengthen the academic skills of students who need additional preparation for entry-level college courses through the Learning Support program; and
- Serve the community by providing opportunities for life-long learning and professional development through community service programs.
The mission includes focused, two year professional offerings, the pre-baccalaureate curricula to prepare students for successful transfer, and baccalaureate offerings targeting the needs of the area. Gordon State College fully serves the community by providing educational and cultural opportunities both within and beyond the Barnesville area.
With an enrollment of more than 4,700 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of less than 25:1, Gordon offers an intimate academic setting where its students can receive the individualized attention that only a small college can provide. The majority of students are from Georgia, but as many as 38 different countries are represented in its student body.
Gordon State College is a state, residential college offering its students more than 40 programs of study as well as baccalaureate degrees in early childhood education, biology, history, English, nursing, mathematics, health services and informatics administration and human services.
Students who graduate with an associate degree may transfer to any of the four-year colleges and universities in the University System of Georgia. Students also may enroll in cooperative degree programs with local technical colleges. Gordon State College offers a highly regarded program in nursing and students may enroll for the two year associate degree in nursing or earn a RN to BSN degree.
Gordon State College also offers courses in Fayetteville, Griffin, Jackson and McDonough.
Gordon had an economic impact of more than $136 million during FY 2010.
