Full Description

Three NCATE-accredited schools in the University System of Georgia participate in this program: Valdosta State University, Georgia Southern University, and Columbus State University. Top graduate faculty from each school teach the courses. This 12-course online M.Ed. program can be completed in four consecutive semesters - about 16 months - with a full-time enrollment. Courses are offered on a continuous basis allowing for part-time enrollment. No campus visits are required to complete the program. The M.Ed. in Accomplished Teaching offers an online Masters Degree through three fully accredited universities in the University System of Georgia. Students in the online program benefit from a highly interactive setting that promotes leadership, collegiality, and communication skills. Professional educators find that the online degree in Accomplished Teaching emphasizes application of acquired knowledge and skills in their classrooms and schools. Teachers in the program come from a range of classroom settings and subject areas. Working educators choose the online M.Ed. in Accomplished Teaching because of its accreditation, quality, and fit with their busy lifestyles. All course-work, including exams, is done online.

No campus visits.  All coursework and assignments conducted online.

Prerequisites

Students may need to have access to Webcam software and hardware to enable remote classroom observation and conferencing. Additional course specific software may be required. Students may work anytime, anywhere they have access to the online courses. The semester-length courses begin and end on specific dates; assignments are due as assigned. Other activity and work deadlines will be published in the course syllabi. There typically are no required synchronous class sessions - some courses will require classroom observation and conferencing via webcam.

Special Requirements

Students may participate in IP video/audio conferencing for instruction or field experience supervision. Students may be required to purchase a Webcam and/or headset in order to participate. Completion of an electronic portfolio using the WebCT VISTA environment is required. Additional course specific software may be required. Students must meet all graduation requirements set forth by their home school (Valdosta State University, Georgia Southern University, or Columbus State University). The Accomplished Teaching M.Ed. curriculum consists of 36 credit hours.

Credit Transfer Policy

Prospective students should inquire about the current transfer policy. To transfer courses, students must present the syllabus of the course they wish to substitute along with the course description from the relevant university catalog. The candidate's advisor and/or the program coordinator must review the course syllabus to determine if: 1) the course is recent enough (within five years) to ensure that the student has a current knowledge base; 2) the course is comparable to the program course or can serve as an elective; 3) the student earned a B or better; 4) the course was offered by an accredited institution. If the course is acceptable, the student is notified and the department sends a course substitution form to the Registrar's office for verification.

The online admissions process for this degree program is now open. To join the Accomplished Teaching M.Ed. Program, apply online via the GeorgiaONmyLINE website to one of three affiliate schools. Application to the Accomplished Teaching M.Ed. Projected Course Offerings

Three classes are offered each semester and summer, permitting students to complete the program in four consecutive semesters in a full-time program of study or longer for part-time students. Students have flexibility in selecting the sequence of course completion, but must complete the electronic portfolio during the final semester of the program. Courses are offered on a rotating basis. Students may enter the program during any semester. The program follows a 15-week semester schedule for Spring and Fall Semester and a modified schedule for Summer Semester.
